Before starting my practicum at C&C Resources For Life, I was uncomfortable with the subject of grief. In terms of doing a practicum placement in grief and loss, I felt anxious and scared as I did not know if I would be able to support somebody in such a vulnerable place without becoming vulnerable and crying myself. However, I quickly learned that being vulnerable and companioning someone who is grieving is such a rewarding and powerful experience, and not scary. Grief and loss are normal reactions, we just live in a society that does not want to discuss grief and loss but instead, have expectations to ‘move on’. I am extremely thankful to have had the opportunity to do my placement at C&C Resources For Life, as I was able to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself as a future social worker. Also, the relationships built through my placement have been meaningful, and I will always encourage people to get the support they need from C&C Resources for Life.
